Art in our surrounds and Kaffe Fassett

See the hexies in the last photo? They make me think of Leanne's quilt here. I am fascinated with environment, art and pattern at the moment. This is partly due to my recent readings of Kaffe Fassett's book "Simple Shapes, Spectacular Quilts" and partly due to my fascination with environment as an artist. I draw and paint as well as sew, I just don't feel that enamoured with the results of my art to show you! The photos above are as a result of the drive my Bradley and I took on Sunday. We drove to Melbourne to check out some houses. I thought we would drive to Melbourne, get a house to live in and then "live happily ever after". Didn't happen. We applied, but didn't get a house. So, aside from these pretty cool photos of Melbourne freeways we have nothing to show for a long, tiring three days.

On a lighter note, we were able to go hear an artist talk about his art while we were in Melbourne. It encouraged me to take the opportunity to explore all the facets of art making available to me. It was very inspiring and really made the trip for me.

Flowers

Today we went for a drive and had lunch in a park. There were lots of flowers in the park, but these blue ones caught my eye. (Not sure what kind of flowers they are. Does anyone know?) Seems I wasn't alone in that, they were covered in bees. Aren't bees amazing?

Sunday Afternoon Drive.

So, yesterday afternoon (Sunday) Bradley and I went for a lovely drive. Along the Great Ocean Road. See, photographic proof! Ocean. Road. (Isn't it Great?)

It really is the Great Ocean Road! More proof is needed I see. Well, how about those 12 Apostles? (You can google them if you like!)

It was so windy out there on the lookout that I could hardly hold the camera still to take these shots! I had never been on the Great Ocean Road before and fell madly in love with it. There is soooo much to do and see there! Of course, not when you are just out for a Sunday drive. There just isn't time. We left home on Friday afternoon and started our journey to Melbourne. We slept in the Dandenong Ranges on Saturday night and on the Great Ocean Road on Sunday night and now we are home. Oh I am tired! That was a big drive. Goodnight!

Driving, driving...

We drove and drove and drove today, and ended up here. Sort of. These photos were taken in Maccas (we needed a toilet!), but that was not our aim or destination. We drove all day to get to Ballarat. These photos are Ballarat as it was. What a lovely place it was! It is still somewhat like this (which obviously thrills someone from little old Adelaide where we shun development!) and Ballarat seems to have a focus on history. Of course, I have only been here for 2 hours so far, maybe that opinion will change! We hope to study Ballarat a little bit more closely tomorrow.
