Results of today.

Today I actually used the needle I threaded yesterday. The raw edge applique was done some days ago. So believe it or not, I actually have some of my December SKoW finished. My umbrella is back to front because I didn't remember until too late that I should have reversed the drawing for fusible webbing applique.

And I'm not much of a singer. I prefer to walk in the rain. I have also spent time cutting out teeny tiny squares for the filler patchwork that goes in between my December blocks of applique. Now there's a tedious task! It looks good though so I am happy to do it. I have also spent ages drawing ideas for my own favourite things. Not sure if I have quite enough ideas of my own yet, but there are enough to carry on with. And now, last of all, I will show you the grandchildren block. I hate it! I loved it right up until I did their faces. I'm not sure whether I will be able to salvage it or not. I am posting it here so you can see it, but hope you don't cringe too much. (Or laugh too much!!! It really is terrible!) It may be that I will start again on this block. It's funny, because this block is "blocking" me, so I have decided to post it here AND get over it.

Ugly Block
Tomorrow we go to inspect a house. It is two streets away and a similar size to the one we currently live in. Right now it is the only house that suits us sizewise and suburbwise. Wish me luck! I hope it's great and I hope we get it!

The more of this quilt I see, the more I wish i was doing it too. I am following it on a few blog sites but only been in blogland a couple of weeks. Its a shame the grandkids block did not turn out as you imagined as it was such a fabulous idea. I think it looks alright but you are the one that has to be happy. Wishing you good luck on the house front.

I think the faces look ok, but I don't really know what your grand children look like.
I really have a problem with faces too, no matter how I stitch them, even when I follow instructions they just don't look 'right' to me but others say they are fine??

You could incorporate the word Grandchildren/kids on a block with three hearts or something....too corny??? Good luck with the house....have everything crossed for you!

I think the faces are fine ... I'm glad you posted it .... I really like your block. I also love the fact that even though it didn't turn out exactly as you wanted it, you had a go. Good for you.

What a pretty umbrella! Nice to meet you, Kris. I love your blog's name and that little blurb about your family's home at the top!

Faces are really hard. You could always do a back view of them walking away holding hands!!!!!!! Good luck with the house. House hunting can ba a very depressing process.

Call that one a practice Kris and give it another go if you really dont like it. I get really cranky when something doesn't turn out the way I planned and Ive decided this year I'm going to just move on when that happens !

I think the shapes are all good, but possibly their faces need 'less'. If you want to try again see if using just a couple of thin lines to indicate some facial features works better. Love the fabrics!

Well done on the brolly...loving the 30s fabrics...I'm not laughing at all..I think it looks good...but then I'm not comparing to the originals...just a thought, who says it has to be applique...what about printing a photo on fabric and maybe embellishing with some stitching highlights?...

I'm with Jindi's Cottage - a printed photo on fabric - or try pens and pencils to do the faces - I cant imagine you will be washing this quilt too often. (Since I cant draw at all I'd hve to go for teh photo - even maybe just the faces.
As I said over on SAL - I love the way you are really personalising your quilt
