Just snipping left!

It fits!

Here's Mr 11 laying on his new shaggy flannel quilt. I think it's big enough for him to enjoy for a while. I just have the snipping left to do. That's slated for tomorrow. I am having "sewing day" at my house tomorrow. I have to admit to sewing every day at my house, but Wednesdays I invite others to come sew with me. I have only had two people pop in to sew with me so far, but I am quite happy with that. I am here sewing anyway! So tomorrow my sewing will be snipping!

My how the weather has changed! - blogtober

The coldest day ever!

You know I'm struggling for blog fodder when I start talking about the weather, right? Well, I have done some sewing today, but there are no photos! So perhaps I am struggling for images. Today was warm. My Davis weather station told me it got to 30 degrees celcius in my backyard today. Our first really warm day for the season here in Melbourne. The photo above was taken in August when our grandson came to visit us for a little holiday. It was soooo cold that day at the playground that immediately after this photo was taken he agreed to put a jumper on! (Something that has only happened a couple of times this year.) Well, two months later and he is visiting again and it is hot! He has had to eat several ice blocks today to keep cool. In fact, we all have!

I managed to sew a little of a dress for granddaughter two today. This morning we had a friend come by to learn to sew. She is determined to sew clothes for her daughter. She started by learning to thread the machine and do a little sewing. Then she traced a pattern and cut it out. I think if she enjoys the sewing she will actually do it because she is very determined. Next week she will come back to learn how to put the shorts together. I have decided to sew one day a week and invite others to come sew with me. I so miss my sewing groups that I sewed with last year that I decided I should make my own happen. I'll let you know if anyone turns up next week!

Market Monsters Today

No, this isn't a monster! This is grandson at sewing day today. Miss 24 and I went to Picklestick's house for sewing day. We all sewed monsters for the MarionLIFE market we are going to on October 23rd. Grandson drew while we sewed. Granddaughter played and was juggled between us all. (Seven month olds are like that!) It was a lovely day. I managed to sew three monsters. I came home and stuffed and stitched up the six monsters that we got finished.

These are my three monsters caught in the garden in my parsley. I don't have much of a garden, but I can grow parsley anywhere. It seems to be a talent of mine.

So, if you are in Adelaide and at a loss on Saturday October 23rd come to the market, introduce yourself to me and maybe pick up a monster or two!

Design Desk

It was sewing day today at Picklesticks house. I wanted to sew a bag for my new camera so had to design the bag before I could sew it. So much thinking! I am now working on sewing the bag. If it turns out I will show it to you!

Sewing day

We went to Mrs 26's house today and I sewed. I didn't remember to take any photos (keeping it real, I will have to admit that I didn't even remember to take the camera!) I managed to put the stripy blocks from the last post together in a quilt top and I actually managed to put some of the 9 patches together that I am making my split 9 patch top from. The bits above are the stage immediately before the 9 patch stage. So again, sewing done - but nothing finished. I did enjoy the sewing though. Flitting suits me I think. So, tomorrow? More flitting I think!

Silly boy!

Cause 6 ft 4 isn't tall enough, Mr 16 added grandson's ball on top of his head. The things boys will do to get a laugh! (Grandson thought this was very funny. And creepy. All at the same time.) Yep, that's what we did at sewing day.

Wednesday saw us at Mrs 26's house for another sewing day. I stitched a little. Mostly we chatted. Miss 24 noticed this Christmas wall hanging and commented on how pretty it is. It's just hanging where it got put the day they moved in, but Mrs 26 said that she found it really inspiring in that position so she left it there.

Yep. Whenever she does the dishes she is reminded that everything is okay. (All is calm, all is bright) Mrs 26 won this in a blog giveaway that Pip had and loves it! I went to the patchwork apple today and bought some Christmas fabric. The Christmas in July theme may just linger on into August for me.

Sewing day

Today was sewing day at Mrs 25's house. We (Miss 13, Mr 9 and me) arrived late morning, set up and sewed into the afternoon. I sewed the aforementioned (forgotten) shaggy flannel quilt. You know, until I made my first shaggy flannel quilt a couple of years ago, I really didn't like those quilts. I always called them cheat quilts. I have made so many this year! It is because they are the warmest snuggliest quilts and my kids all want their own. (Still got one who wants one, so I'm not done yet.)


Miss 13 started a moda "pure" quilt top. She surprised me today with her patchwork knowledge. I was ready to help her, but she knew it all. There was some babysitting done by Mrs 25. She was binding a quilt that she has been working on this week. Granddaughter made sure she didn't get too much done!

The boys (Mr 9 and grandson) played shops, cubby houses, posted mail, ate (and ate and ate), and watched a video. There were some altercations but mostly it was a happy day.

All in all a really fun day. We decided we should do it again soon!

Shaggy quilt finished!

I have been working on this quilt for some time. So long in fact that I had almost forgotten about it. (That's my story and I'm sticking to it) Until today when wondering out loud what I should take to the sewing day I had been invited to. (more about that later) My Bradley suggested Miss 18's shaggy quilt. "Good idea!" I thought since Miss 18 is going away this weekend and had expressed a desire to take it with her quite some time ago. Then I finished it and gave it to Miss 18. Even she had forgotten about it! So, here it is. My second finish for this month! The forgotten shaggy quilt.
