We have birthdays in our family this week and next. This is the shaggy flannel quilt I made for the new Miss 22. A quilt to keep her warm! We must think she is cold, cause Miss 25 made her this to keep warm too.

Finished!

I finished the snipping on Mr 11's quilt yesterday, which was a very good thing because he had already been using it, he was so keen to have it! I spent yesterday evening stitching some more Christmas dekkies. One of Miss 25's friends popped in and sewed with us, making a star to take home to make her place more Christmassy. (You can see her star in the photo below.) I can't show you exactly what I was stitching last night, because some things just have to be secret! (Especially when you are involved in Chookyblue's Secret Santa Christmas Swap!) There is quite a bit of secret sewing going on here at the moment! Christmas is a wonderful time! I was going to start decorating for Christmas yesterday, but just didn't get that far. Then in conversations with two of my Adelaide kids discovered that they had both begun Christmas decorating already! I felt proud. I have taught them well! Don't know if I will get to the decorating today or not. I have lots of chauffeuring to do today. (Some days are like that when you have kids.) And some secret sewing. (Shhhhhh!)

Here's Mr 11 laying on his new shaggy flannel quilt. I think it's big enough for him to enjoy for a while. I just have the snipping left to do. That's slated for tomorrow. I am having "sewing day" at my house tomorrow. I have to admit to sewing every day at my house, but Wednesdays I invite others to come sew with me. I have only had two people pop in to sew with me so far, but I am quite happy with that. I am here sewing anyway! So tomorrow my sewing will be snipping!

I have had a busy weekend. Friday Mr 11 and I drove to Adelaide with Mrs 27 and the three grandchildren. It's an all day drive, especially with a three month old in tow. Saturday we got to go op shopping with Miss 19 (Gosh that girl can shop! We had a lovely time with her.) and then we attended an 80th birthday party. After the party we drove home, arriving in the wee hours of Sunday morning. Today has been a go slow kind of day. Too much driving this weekend I think. Anyway, this afternoon Mr 17 and I laid out the shaggy flannel quilt for Mr 11 on the lounge room floor. (Mr 17 has a good eye for these things you know. I have to think less when I have his help. I definitely needed that today!) We fiddled a bit with the blocks and then we pinned it together. Now it is ready to sew! It's tomorrow's project I think! (tired, tired, tired.)

Blogtober - the review

Tired.

Well, I didn't manage it. Blogging every day in October I mean. I only managed 24 posts. Of course, that was a lot more than I would have done otherwise, so I think I am happy with the outcome. I would like to blog more often than I do (I love having a record of my life!) and I think that blogtober has helped me focus more on blogging, so that's got to be good! Today I am feeling tired. Still getting over this wretched virus. Mr 17 who was sick much worse than me is now starting to feel himself again, so I'm sure I will be tip top by the end of the week! Of course I did shop till I dropped today at Spotlight, Patchwork with Gail B, and Ikea. I should be tired! I did go and get more fabric for Mr 11's shaggy flannel quilt. Now I have all the ingredients and I have a deadline. Thursday night. (It's a race Sarah!)

Shaggy quilt finished!

I have been working on this quilt for some time. So long in fact that I had almost forgotten about it. (That's my story and I'm sticking to it) Until today when wondering out loud what I should take to the sewing day I had been invited to. (more about that later) My Bradley suggested Miss 18's shaggy quilt. "Good idea!" I thought since Miss 18 is going away this weekend and had expressed a desire to take it with her quite some time ago. Then I finished it and gave it to Miss 18. Even she had forgotten about it! So, here it is. My second finish for this month! The forgotten shaggy quilt.

Shaggy quilt finished!

Yes! It's finished! So pleased to have it done. I went to my quilt group, "Pink Ladies" at the Patchwork Apple today and finished the clipping. Mr 16 is pleased in a teenaged boy grunt kind of way. I am pleased because it's done, and because it will keep him warm now. Quilts are beautiful and I love to look at them, but it's very satisfying being able to warm someone too. Hmm....... next project please!

Today's Sewing

Remember this from March? Mr 16 and I sewing shaggy flannel quilts? I finished mine. His is much bigger than mine was. (He is 6ft 3. Try fitting that under your usual shaggy flannel quilt!) He did all the cutting out and then all the quilting. He even had the first two rows of the quilt together. Then it turned into a UFO. We all know how that happens! So today I thought I would work on his quilt because it is cool here in Adelaide now and he wants his quilt. I will be working on it again tomorrow. Maybe I will even finish it!

Shaggy Flannel Quilt

Can I just say that this quilt is much more beautiful in real life than my photo shows. I was madly rushing to finish this quilt before Easter because it is for Miss 23 (peeking out from under the corner), our Easter visitor. She is taking it back to Melbourne with her today. Apparently it is cold in Melbourne and she really needed a quilt. In fact Melbourne is all sorts of things that Adelaide isn't I think. Last month we had a storm with hail. Tiny pieces of hail that melted on impact. Melbourne had the same storm later and had almost golf ball size pieces of hail. (Miss 23 took photos) I just can't help but think that Melbourne is an overachiever! So, here is the latest quilt to leave my sewing machine.

Duelling Machines

So today we have had duelling sewing machines here. That's because we are sewing two shaggy flannel quilts. A manly one. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

and a girly one . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Yep, Mr 15 and I are sewing quilts together. (He is beating me!) He is making the "manly" quilt for himself and I am making the "girly" quilt just to be companionable. Mr 15 is a great sewer, but hasn't made a quilt before so I thought making a quilt alongside him would be a good way to show him what to do. Of course, he isn't just making a quilt. He is also playing his favourite online game at the same time. (Talk about talent!) What have you been doing today?

OPAM Finish

So I actually finished this quilt. I finished the sewing this morning and completed the snipping at the Patchwork Apple's sit n sew this arvo. I quite like the finished feeling. Maybe this is the new feeling for 2010. I might just finish something else.

More shirts.....

I finished two more shirts for grandson today, and a pair of overalls. I was so anxious to get them to him that I forgot to take a photo of them! I also managed to do another third on the shaggy flannel quilt for Miss 12. It's getting bigger!

Miss 23 got home from a two and a bit week road trip last night. I think she had fun! I also think she missed us. (We are soooo great - and modest!) We sat up late last night and listened to her tell road trip stories. Miss 17 is a Storyteller and one of her favourite ways to get everyone's attention is to say, "Hey! Telling a story here!", with a LOT of attitude. So that phrase was used over and over last night, with an excess amount of attitude, as we listened to Miss 23's stories as well as the stories of everyone who stayed home. Hey! Just because we didn't go anywhere doesn't mean we didn't have lots of exciting things to relate to Miss 23! While she was gone Miss 17 managed to get her driver's license which neccessitated the telling of many stories and that was just one of the many exciting things that happened in the last couple of weeks here at Rosemary Hill. Life is all go here! We seem to have a need to tell a lot of stories and laugh a lot. Perhaps that's why I'm so in love with blogging and reading blogs. It's the stories! Hope your story is a wondeful one today!

Merry Christmas!

I hope you all have a Merry Christmas! This is a shaggy quilt I made for Christmas. That Australian sun is awfully bright. The colours don't look anywhere as rich in this photo as they do in real life. I just love these quick shaggy quilts. The one I made a couple of years ago is pressed into service almost every day - even in summer. I would like to make a bunch more for my house one day. This one went off to Christmas at Mum's house, which we always celebrate on Christmas eve. I wasn't able to go because I woke up in the middle of the night last night with a tummy bug. I'm hoping to feel better tomorrow. Grandson started the tummy bug earlier this week and he is an excellent sharer because his Mum and Dad have both had it as well as Mr 9 and myself.

This year has really rushed by, but I am really glad that it is nearly over. I love the whole ending and beginning thing. The whole new start thing. I never really made any goals for 2009, just couldn't get my head around it last year, but I feel that 2010 will be different. So, I have a week or so to ponder about and set some goals for 2010.
