My week has wings!

This week has just flown by! My Bradley spent this week in Townsville for work so it meant I had to be two parents instead of one which makes me so much busier. (I don't know how single parents do it!) Our new place (kind of not that new anymore after four months!) has a courtyard and now that our thoughts are turning to spring (it's warming up here) we are thinking about the courtyard! I am sitting outside under our new shade. My laptop is on the new table and I am contemplating just where to put the bbqs! (You know me, always feeding the 5000 so I have to have more than one bbq!)

A couple of months ago I joined a quilting group at the patchwork apple and yesterday managed to finish my Rosalie Quinlan Redwork Christmas BOM month 7 whilst there! I thought I was never going to finish that one! I was on a roll. Don't know what happened, but I obviously fell off the roll and I thought I would never finish number 7. I just have 8 and 9 to do now. Not sure if I will finish it for this Christmas, but there's always next year! I have a lot of Christmas projects rushing around in my head. I really want to have a handmade Christmas this year. I've been trying to think how I would have felt about that if my mother did that when I was a child and I realised that she did. She often made our gifts and I loved them all. We live in such a brand new, shiny, disposable, status symbol kind of world that I would like to remove that from our Christmas if I can. Too much emphasis is on what we've got and what we're getting, rather than what we are. So, on with the sewing!

I am with you on a handmade Christmas.....it isn't the easiest option - it takes more time ....but it is sooooo much more satisfying! I envy your day at the Patchwork Apple...sounds like fun......i haven't started the stitcheries yet so you are way ahead on those! perhaps i will put the patterns up around the room as decorations.....(or not!) LOL.....see you tomorrow at the Apple!

Kris, in't it lovely to be able to consider bbq's again. Sure sign that good weather is on its way. Love your block 7, looks great.
And yes, I'm with you, I have no idea how single parents manage. I take my hat off to them

While I love the idea of a homemade Christmas I often find the reality a bit exhausting - don't like deadlines LOL. Still thinking about the kids Christmas outfits, more felt Christmas decorations and trying to get the baby's quilt done within the next 6 weeks. Maybe the secret to a handmade Christmas is to make one project each month specifically for Christmas pressies?!

I love, love, love handmade things - especially seeing as I am not a sewer, knitter etc. I asked my mum (She's nearly 80 now) to make some covered coat hangers for my girls (she knits them with wool and lace) and she thought I was weird - 'won't they think they are old fashioned?' I said 'no, they will love them because you made them just for them'. I noticed when I took her shopping the other day, she had bought the wooden coat hangers so the job is on! She's happy to have something simple to do while watching TV.

Have a nice weekend - my baby turns 16 today and she just got her 'L's today! Aaaargh!

Cheers - Joolz

Funny, I've been thinking about a having a home-made christmas this year ... think I've left my run a bit late though. Love your stitchery .. really nice. Well speaking from experience when you're a single mum, you just have to get used to it .... you don't have a choice. It's probably harder when you only have to do it for a short time.

What a lovely post. You have the same thoughts as me about how Christmas has been taken over by the commercialism. Now we just have to make the rest of the world see it our way!!!!!

I love the idea of a homemade Christmas too. It usually hits full on around November 20th which is why I've never had a homemade Christmas be successful - planning ahead has never been my thing. I will say that a few years ago I did make every gift that I gave to extended family and I loved that.

I love how you put it.."too much emphasis is on what we've got & what we're getting". I love homemade Christmas!

Lovely block! I love red work....one of my all time favorite colors.
I am seriously debating the homemade Christmas as well. I did a lot of that last year, but want to do more this year.
You are so right about the world becoming collecters of "things".
Take care...enjoy your spring weather. :)

nice stitchery..........must get this pattern.........think I would not make the quilt but use the stitcheries individually..........so do you have another workshop this weekend at the Patchwork shop.............sounds wonderful..........
